In the water moat surrounding the city of Beyelstein, blood emerged from the depths, and soon the moat turned completely red, as if blood were pouring into it.
A foul, nauseating odor also emanated from the moat and bloody veins appeared, pouring along the water without mingling, as if from a wounded, submerged hand.

When the moat was drained, many dead swans were found at the bottom. Throughout the entire time, no one could tell where the blood was coming from.

In the following days, from 5 p.m. onward, three large, terrifying armies were seen in the sky all night long. People heard a sound in the air as if many voices were speaking simultaneously, and bizarre streaks and whirlpools emerged in the night sky. Throughout the night, people could hear harmonic rattling, primarily tapping and whistling, as if heavenly troops were marching.

Our Evaluation of the Alleged UFO Sighting

The red water in the moat was probably caused by a kind of bacteria or algae. These can turn water the color of blood, give off a terrible smell, and kill animals, which explains the swans found dead at the bottom.

Certain bacteria and algae can create streaks or ribbons in the water that look very much like “veins of blood. Red algae blooms (sometimes called “red tides”) can form long, vein-like streaks that don’t immediately mix with the rest of the water.

The sightings that came after —  armies in the sky, voices in the air, strange lights and sounds — sound like what we would now call UFO reports.
