1536 Sky Battle: Two Flying Humanoids Fight in the Night Sky

Medieval UFO Sightings: Mysterious Duel Between Celestial Warriors Witnessed in Spain: Regnabo vs. Regnavi

Ancient and Medieval UFOs: Mysterious Duel Between Celestial Warriors Witnessed in Spain

In the year of Christ 1536, on the 7th day of February, at 2 o’clock in the night, above a small Spanish town in the Basque country, in a sky then covered with heavy clouds, a strange celestial phenomenon was seen.

Two beautiful young men, armed with swords, appeared to be fighting with each other. One of them held in his left hand a shield bearing a double-headed eagle and the inscription RegnaboI will rule.” The other bore a shield on which the sun and the crescent moon were depicted, along with the inscription RegnaviI have ruled.

After a short while, they began to fight fiercely. Eventually, the one with the eagle on his shield struck his opponent to the ground and overcame him. Thereupon, the entire scene suddenly vanished from sight.

Our Evaluation of the Alleged UFO Sighting

While the 1536 account presents a vision rich in symbolism, it is important to interpret it within the context of its late medieval origins. The vivid imagery—two radiant, armed figures appearing in the sky and bearing heraldic symbols—points to an allegorical narrative rather than a literal UFO encounter by modern standards.

Such sky battles were often seen as divine omens in early modern Europe. The symbolism of "Regnabo" ("I will rule") overcoming "Regnavi" ("I have ruled") may reflect a broader sense of shifting power—perhaps alluding to the death of an old emperor and the rise of a new one. While historical records may not capture all the details, such transitions were deeply felt by those living at the time and often stirred feelings of anxiety, hope, or a sense of cosmic significance.

While certainly interesting to UFO enthusiasts, this sighting is, in our opinion, best understood as a symbolic event, recorded through the lens of 16th-century cosmology.
